LCC IWLA
Family Rimfire Sporter-Rifle Match
28 June 2009
OVERVIEW:
The intent of this match is to provide a fun, family event with good-natured competition using a standard .22 LR rimfire rifle. It is specifically designed with young shooters in mind, and no special equipment is needed. Match rules are virtually identical as those for the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Rimfire Sporter Match. The course of fire is posted below to encourage prospective competitors to practice prior to the event.
ENTRY FEE:
TIME:
Safety inspection, briefing and squading begin at 10 AM. First round goes downrange at 11 AM.
REGISTRATION:
Due to the size constraints of the LCC IWLA Range, the number of shooters will be limited.
Download the registration form here, complete all items, and email the completed form to: range@loudouniwla.org with the phrase ".22 Sporter Match Registration" in the subject line.
If the number of registrants exceeds the capacity of the match, you will be notified as to where you are on the waiting list.
COMPEITIORS:
Competitors will shoot as a team. Each team will be comprised of two members: one parent, grandparent or legal guardian, and one child under 18 years of age who is the child, grandchild or ward of the adult team member.
For fairness in competition, separate awards will be given based on the age of the child team-member. Age group is determined by the age of the child (on the day of the match) as follows:
- under 10
- 10-12
- 13-14
- 15-17
The adult team member must be a member of LCC IWLA and have successfully passed their range orientation.
Adult team members may coach and spot for their child. Adult team members are responsible for the safe conduct of their child, particularly while shooting and on the range.
RIFLES, GEAR & CLOTHING
Rifles used in the Rimfire Sporter Match must be standard sporter-type rimfire rifles that meet the requirements listed below. All rifles will be weighed and safety tested prior to the match.
- Rifles must be standard sporter-type rimfire rifles in virtually "out-of-the-box" condition.
- Rifles modified from original with heavy barrels, special stocks and grips, muzzle weights, etc., are not "sporter" rifles.
- Overall weight of the rifle may not exceed 7 1/2 pounds, with sights. If a sling is used, it may be removed when the rifle is weighed.
- The stock may have sling swivels, but they must be fixed in one location (rails with adjustable sling swivels are not permitted). Thumbhole stocks, adjustable buttplates, adjustable cheekpieces, movable sling swivels, palm rests and hand-stops are not permitted.
- Any safe .22 long rifle (LR) rimfire sporter rifle of any action type may be used. Rifles must be chambered for the .22 LR rimfire cartridge. No other calibers are permitted.
- The trigger must be capable of lifting a three-pound weight when cocked.
- Telescopic, receiver, or open sights may be used. Shooters who use rifles with telescopic or receiver (aperture or “peep”) sights will compete in the T-Class. Scopes are limited to six power (6x). If a variable power scope is used, the power adjustment may not exceed 6x, and will be taped into place for the match. Any rifles with receiver (aperture or “peep”) sights will compete in the T-Class. Shooters who use rifles with open sights will compete in the O-Class. If one shooter uses a rifle using open sights, and their team-mate uses a T-Class rifle, then the team will be in the T-Class.
- A standard leather or web sling no wider than 1 1/4 inches may be used in the prone, sitting and kneeling positions. Slings may not be used in the standing position to provide support, but the sling may remain on the rifle.
- The use of shooting mats in the prone position, spotting scopes or binoculars, is permitted and highly encouraged.
- The use of special shooting jackets, shooting pants and gloves (such as those used in smallbore and high-power rifle competition) are not permitted.
- All determinations of the Match Official as to the permissibility of rifles and equipment is final.
COURSE OF FIRE AND SCORING
Team members will share a firing point. Team member #1 will shoot, targets will be scored, then team member #2 will shoot from the same firing point.
Due to range limitations, targets will not be shot in the same sequence by all competitors. Some teams will start at 25-yards, others at 50-yards, and the remainder at 100-yards.
Starting position will be determined by lottery. Targets will be provided by LCC IWLA.
