RIFLES, GEAR & CLOTHING
Match is open to any muzzleloading blackpowder rifle that is legal for whitetail deer hunting in Virginia.
- Use of traditional rifles is strongly encouraged.
- Shooter may use blackpowder, synthetic equivelants or pelletized loads.
- Prepared loads (a.k.a. "speedloads", paper cartridges, etc.) are allowed.
- Bulk powder containers must remain on the bench behind the shooting line.
- Slings may not be used for support.
- No shooting jackets or shooting gloves.
- Binouculars and spotting scopes are allowed.
- Shooters are reminded - particularly those shooting traditional rifles - that due to the hazzards presented from sparks, synthetic clothing is highly discouraged. Synthetic clothing melts against the skin when it burns, and also presents a static-spark hazzard that can ignite powder. (Although static hazzards are not likely in August!) Only clothing made from natural fibers (cotton and wool) should be worn.
- Shooters are encouraged to wear a hat to protect their head and hair from sparks. Even if you are shooting a modern in-line with a totally enclosed ignition system, remember, the shooter next to you may be shooting a spark-thorowing flintlock!
- All determinations of the Match Official as to the permissibility of rifles and equipment is final.
COURSE OF FIRE AND SCORING
Due to range limitations, targets will not be shot in the same sequence by all competitors. Some shooters will start at 50-yards, and others at 100-yards.
Starting position will be determined by lottery.
Targets will be provided by LCC IWLA. Game targets - deer, ground hog - are life-size.
